How digital templating worksOne instrument instead of a roll of cardboard.
Digital templating, the way we do it: one technician, the Leica iCON iCS50 and its vPen. We touch every edge of the space, and the instrument turns each touch into a point in a drawing file.

01 On the day
What happens during a digital templating visit.
- 01

We set up in the room
The iCS50 goes on a tripod in a corner and levels itself. It needs a line of sight to the pen, not an empty room.
- 02

We touch every edge
The technician touches the vPen to each wall, corner and edge. The instrument follows the pen with its cameras and records each point. Curves get as many points as they need.
- 03

We add what the piece needs
Sink, hob and tap positions, overhangs, joints, fixings and clearances are added on the tablet while we are still in the room.
- 04

We check before we leave
The shape is drawn on the tablet as we go, so anything odd is measured again on the spot, not discovered in the workshop.
Step photos are AI illustrations of a typical visit.

iCS50 instrument
Stands on a tripod, levels itself and follows the pen or pole with cameras. One technician, no second person.
vPole and vSphere
The red-dot sphere the instrument locks on to. The pole does not need to be held plumb; tilt is compensated.
vPen
The templating tool. Touch it to an edge or corner and the point is recorded: under worktops, inside alcoves, along a hull.
CSX8 tablet
Shows every measured point as it is taken, so the shape is checked on site before we leave.
